About This Campaign
One of our core missions as a non-profit organisation is to promote good health behaviours amongst the public and members of ethnic minority groups. Thus we are driven to provide empowering solutions for health care concerns within the African-Caribbean community; and such a passion has led us to develop the exciting launch of our first annual blood drive entitled “Black Blood Appeal”. The goal of Blood-Appeal Project is to demystify the blood donation experience and to increase BAME donors.
OUR MISSION FOR “BLACK BLOOD APPEAL” IS TO BUILD A COMMUNITY OF CHANGE AGENTS, WHO ARE EMPOWERED TO DONATE BLOOD, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE EFFECTIVE SUPPORT FOR THE HAEMATOLOGICAL HEALTH CARE CONCERNS WITHIN THE AFRICAN-CARIBBEAN COMMUNITY.
#SickleCellAwareness
Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia are blood disorders which are predominant within ethnic minority communities. The success of the treatment is higher when the blood which is used is closely matched to the patient’s ethnicity, this is because of the rare blood type which is required. Currently, only 1% of blood donors are from an African-Caribbean background and the number of registrations and donors within ethnic minorities are considerably low. We believe that through the means of our annual project; we would help to widen awareness and aid in the strengthening of support within our community to address this pressing issue.
