Outreach & Engagement Officer: Medical Students (ACMS Liaison)

The Outreach & Engagement Officer: Medical Students (ACMS Liaison) serves as the primary bridge between Melanin Medics and African-Caribbean Medical Societies across UK medical schools. Your focus is to build a unified, thriving community that supports and equips Black medical students nationwide.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Act as the dedicated point of contact for all ACMS committees across UK medical schools, building strong, regular communication channels to understand their specific needs and challenges.

  • Committee Leadership Support: Design and deliver support frameworks, resources, and development opportunities for ACMS committee leaders to help them effectively run their student societies.

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute joint events that bring multiple ACMS societies together (e.g., national networking mixers, inter-university panel discussions, or skill-building workshops).

  • Establish and facilitate peer support networks and mentorship spaces specifically tailored for Black medical students navigating their medical school journeys.

  • Oversee and coordinate Melanin Medics’ sponsorship packages, financial support, or resource allocation for local ACMS events, ensuring fair distribution and tracking impact.

  • Collect feedback and insights from ACMS leaders to report back to the Engagement Manager, helping shape Melanin Medics' broader medical student strategy.

  • Play an active role in engaging in Melanin Medics Projects throughout the operational year, contributing to the organisation's overall communications efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Active or recent experience within an African-Caribbean Medical Society (ACMS) or similar medical student committee leadership structure is highly desirable.

  • Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills

  • Experience organising virtual or in-person student events, workshops, or meetings

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator

  • Excellent personal management skills to handle communications 

  • A deep commitment to supporting the well-being, professional growth, and community integration of Black medical students in the UK.

  • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation or charity role with exposure to the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage

Organisational Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Engagement

  • Part of the Engagement Team: Outreach and engagement officers and Advocacy and engagement officers

Location

Our work is focused in the United Kingdom. Our team work mainly remotely with in-person commitments for our seasonal events.


Expectation: 2-5 volunteer hours a week (varies based on roles and activities).
