This role is absolutely key to building and nurturing our community of future Black doctors. As an Outreach & Engagement Officer (Medical Students), you'll be instrumental in connecting with medical students across the UK, providing them with essential support, creating valuable resources, and coordinating engaging events that empower them throughout their studies and beyond.
Responsibilities & Duties
Serve as the primary contact for medical student enquiries, fostering a supportive and connected community.
Manage a calendar of outreach activities for medical students, proactively organising events like educational workshops and networking sessions to build strong connections.
Support event planning and delivery, taking an active role in creating impactful and engaging experiences for our student community.
Develop valuable session and educational materials tailored for medical students, consistently creating valuable resources to aid their development.
Nurture relationships with collaborative partners to expand the reach and benefit of our medical student community.
Represent Melanin Medics at external outreach requests focused on medical students, highlighting our mission and support.
Coordinate a monthly targeted newsletter for medical students, keeping the community informed and engaged.
Recruit, train, and support volunteers, tracking their performance and activities in support of our community-building efforts.
Coordinate volunteers, receiving feedback, recognising efforts, and addressing questions to empower our community contributors.
Actively engage in Melanin Medics Projects throughout the operational year, directly impacting and enriching the medical student community.
Eligibility Criteria
Unwavering commitment to racial equity in medicine
Relevant experience organising and leading projects
Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.
Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.
Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders
Strong written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator
Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation or charity role with exposure to the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage
Organisational Relationships
Reports to the Director of Engagement
Part of the Engagement Team: outreach and engagement officers and policy and advocacy officer
Location
Our work is focused in the United Kingdom. Our team work mainly remotely with in-person commitments for our seasonal events.
Expectation: 2-5 volunteer hours a week (varies based on roles and activities).
