Outreach & Engagement Officer (Doctors)

As an Outreach & Engagement Officer (Doctors) at Melanin Medics, you'll play a pivotal role in nurturing our community of Black doctors. You'll be the driving force behind creating engaging events, developing essential resources, and fostering a supportive network that empowers our members and advances racial equality in the medical workforce.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Serve as a point of contact for enquiries from doctors, ensuring they feel heard and supported within the Melanin Medics community.

  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, including educational workshops, networking events, outreach requests, appearances, and other communication opportunities, all designed to connect and empower Black doctors.

  • Support with event planning and delivery, taking a lead role in conceptualising and executing engaging events that foster community and professional growth.

  • Develop session material for outreach programmes and educational material for doctors, creating valuable resources tailored to their needs and facilitating their development.

  • Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners, identifying and fostering alliances with relevant organisations to advance the racial equality agenda.

  • Represent the organisation at external outreach requests focused on doctors, showcasing Melanin Medics' mission and impact to wider audiences.

  • Coordinate monthly targeted newsletter to doctors, ensuring the community stays informed about upcoming events, resources, and opportunities.

  • Advertising for and recruiting volunteers, providing them with training and support, tracking their performance, and keeping records of their activities, thereby empowering our volunteer network.

  • Coordinate volunteers where required, receiving their feedback, recognising their efforts, and answering their questions, fostering a positive and productive volunteer experience.

  • Support efforts to build relationships with potential allies (civil society, government, NGOs, research actors, etc.) to advance racial equality in the medical workforce, expanding our influence and reach.

  • Must play an active role in engaging in Melanin Medics Projects, for the operational year, contributing expertise and energy to key initiatives that drive our mission forward.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Unwavering commitment to racial equity in medicine

  • Relevant experience organising and leading projects

  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills.

  • Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation or charity role with exposure to the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage

Organisational Relationships

  • Reports to the Director of Engagement

  • Part of the Engagement Team: outreach and engagement officers and policy and advocacy officer

Location

Our work is focused in the United Kingdom. Our team work mainly remotely with in-person commitments for our seasonal events.


Expectation: 2-5 volunteer hours a week (varies based on roles and activities).
