Communications Officer (Podcast)

As our Communications Officer (Podcast), you'll be the creative force behind Melanin Medics' podcast. You'll manage the entire podcast journey, from developing engaging content to ensuring it reaches our audience, all while amplifying our mission and connecting our community. You will work closely with the No Scrubs podcast hosts to produce high-quality, impactful episodes.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Lead the conceptualisation and development of compelling podcast topics and episode ideas relevant to Black doctors and medical students, in collaboration with the No Scrubs podcast hosts.

  • Craft engaging episode outlines, scripts, and interview questions, ensuring high-quality and impactful content alongside the hosts.

  • Identify, invite, and coordinate with potential guests, managing all logistical arrangements for recording sessions.

  • Oversee the recording process, ensuring optimal audio quality and managing any technical aspects.

  • Manage the editing and post-production of podcast episodes, including sound mixing and adding music/intro/outro.

  • Manage the uploading and distribution of podcast episodes to all relevant hosting platforms and directories.

  • Develop and implement promotional strategies for new episodes across Melanin Medics' social media channels, website, and other communication platforms.

  • Create engaging promotional assets, such as audiograms and visual quotes, to maximise episode reach.

  • Monitor and analyse podcast performance metrics (e.g., download numbers, listener demographics) to identify trends and areas for improvement.

  • Play an active role in engaging in Melanin Medics Projects throughout the operational year, contributing to the organisation's overall communications efforts.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Friendly, enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Must have good organizational, analytical, and coordinating abilities

  • Ability to work as part of a team

  • Detail-orientated with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time.

  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms.

  • Must be self-motivated.

  • Be able to produce original ideas.

  • Proficient in Canva and video editing softwares

  • Prior experience with marketing or social media.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, a persuasive and passionate communicator

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation or charity role with exposure to the not-for-profit sector would be an advantage

Organisational Relationships

  • Reports to the Social Media Manager

  • Part of the Communications Team: Director of Communications, Secretary, Social Media Officers and Content Writer

Location

Our work is focused in the United Kingdom. Our team work mainly remotely with in-person commitments for our seasonal events.


Expectation: 2-5 volunteer hours a week (varies based on roles and activities).
