Clinical Communication: Breaking Bad News

As the soon-to-be F1 doctors prepare for the world of work, this session aims to support them in understanding the importance of sensitive clinical communication and the challenges when breaking bad news.

By the end of this session attendees should be able to:

• Identify a framework for breaking bad news to patients and their families
• Understand limitations of being an F1 and know when and how to escalate to seniors
• Have an awareness of the wider multi-disciplinary team who can support difficult conversations

The session will also explore the difficulties that foundation doctors face and how one can overcome them?
