We are excited to celebrate Black History Month! Our theme for this year's Black History Month celebration is "Lessons from Black History". This month we will be highlighting historical black medics, exploring what they don’t tell you about black influences in medicine and digging deeper into what we have learned from other black medics who inspire us. So get ready to listen, learn and celebrate Black History in Medicine like never before!
The Melanin Medics
Join us as we delve deep into topical conversations, share real- life experiences and celebrate notable achievements of current and future doctors of african and caribbean heritage. Listen in as we amplify black voices in medicine and surgery.
This Black history month edition proudly celebrates trail blazing black doctors and we ask them:
"Why did you fall in love with medicine?"
The Research Proposal
We want to empower and challenge black current and future doctors to be change makers. What better way to do it than through encouraging innovation, creativity and accessibility in research!
This years 'Research Proposal Prize' gives medical students and doctors the chance to propose a research project that can be implemented through our Research Network. Medical students and doctors in the UK are invited to submit a research proposal. The top three proposals will be offered the opportunity of an oral presentation at the annual melanin medics conference, national prize certificate and receive a monetary awards.
The Melanin Medics
To end Black History Month and conclude the month's festivities, we will be holding a positive, uplifting event with a great panel of esteemed guests.
We will be considering lessons learned from history, the nuances in the experiences of black people in Medicine and how that can change our perspectives and redefine our futures moving forward
